National President to open third SOS Children’s Village in Uganda
National President, Yoweri Museveni, will be guest of honour at the opening of the third SOS Children’s Village in Uganda later this week.
The new village will provide homes and families for 120 children in Gulu, northern Uganda. In addition to changing the lives of orphaned or abandoned children, the village features a social and medical centre that serves the wider community.
There are 2 other SOS villages in Uganda but both are located close to the cities of Kampala and Entebbe. Gulu, by contrast, is in the remote north of the country and was at the centre of the civil war involving the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) who gained notoriety by kidnapping children and forcing boys to fight and girls to become sex slaves.
The project came to inception as an emergency relief camp providing refuge and rehabilitation for children who had escaped the clutches of the LRA. With the violence ebbing in recent years, the camp has been transformed into a fully functioning child and community resource.
You can help SOS continue their work by sponsoring a child in Uganda.
Alternatively you can sponsor a child in 122 other countries around the world.
